A turned mahogany, barrel shaped travel inkwell.

The inkwell has a button to the front, similar to those found on other travel inkwell, to release a catch to the top. However, the lid of this inkwell is released by a half twist which lines up the 2 notches to the main body of the well to their corresponding cut outs to the lid. The inside of the lid is padded to seal the top of the glass ink bottle. A spring, underneath the bottle, ensures it is pushed up tight to the seal.

The barrel is decorative with ring turned decoration and small enough to fit into a pocket. Mid to late 19th Century.
