A nickel plated De La Rue & Co., Casket Patent Inkwell.
The outer casket case of this inkwell adds an extra layer of protection during travel. For use, the casket case forms a stand foot to hold the inkwell in the upright position.
The inkwell is opened by pushing the button and releasing the sprung clip that holds the lid. The interior of the lid has a pad with hidden spring to push it tight against the neck of the glass ink bottle.
The casket case has a thin leather lining to provide a comfortable fit to the inkwell it holds. Both the outer case and the inkwell are stamped with the company's name, the inkwell's title and that it was manufactured in Paris as well as the fact that De La Rue were based in both London and Paris. Circa 1910.
