A Travel inkwell made of leather on a thin brass case.
The inkwell has a hidden sprung button to the front which release the red leather top. The interior has a second lid released by a sprung catch to the side. The underside of the internal lid has a sprung pad which forms a seal against the neck of the glass inkwell. A large number of novelty inkwells such as this one were made either side of 1900 to a variety of designs. This one is very decorative with the use of paint to the leather to highlight the design and the brass cross to the top. Circa 1900.
