Coopers Tooth Brush Rack

To all intents and purposes this folding gilt brass rack looks like a portable Pen Rest. However, the applied brass plaque to the centre of the top cross bar notes that it is a Coopers Patent Toilet Brush Rack. It is probable that Toilet Brush actually refers to what we now call a Tooth Brush, which would make sense given its size.

The rack is cut out of sheet brass and the extending arms are riveted to fold with a notch turned to the end of each to prevent it folding too far. Although the name plate suggests another use, the rack would also work very well on a desk to take pens. Circa 1900.
