This pair of Colonial made treen Travelling Candlesticks are made of a hard wood that is probably sissoo. The timber is an Asian hardwood and it is difficult to determine exactly what it is. Padouk or sissoo are possibilities.

These Brighton Buns were probably made in India and have a brass lining to the sconces to help protect the wood from the burning candle. They are quite bold in their shape with ring turned decoration to the lip of the dishes and a good vase shape to the sconces. They do not have threaded fittings to unite the parts but spikes and receiving holes. This would suggest they probably originally had a pouch or case to hold the bun shape whilst travelling.

Both the wood and the fittings are unusual. Mid to late 19th Century.
