Travelling Candlesticks
Travelling Candlesticks
83767
A pair of pressed and cast brass Brighton Bun Military Candlesticks.
The dishes of these candlesticks are made of pressed brass of a good gauge with a turned over lip edge. The removable candle holders are made of cast brass with two ring turnings for simple decoration.
The design of this form of portable candlestick is simple but very effective with the two dishes screwing together to form a 'bun' case for the two unscrewed sconces or candleholders. So effective that the design was used from the 18th century through to the 20th century.
The pair has the odd dent and knock but nothing that is too unsightly. Although unmarked, the size is the largest that the Army & Navy CSL sold in brass, at the turn of 1900. Late 19th Century.
The last image shows this set, on your left of screen, along side a comparable all pressed brass pair which is smaller in size. The two pairs are sold separately.
