Large Medicine Glass by S. Maw, Son & Sons
83581
An unusually large Medicine Measure Glass in leather on card case.
Most medicine measures are half the size of this one and give dose measurements in tablespoons, teaspoons and ounces. This one only gives measurements in ounces, with 12 the largest size.
S. Maw, Son & Sons had a long history as manufacturers of medical equipment. They were started in 1828 by J and S Maw at 11 Aldersgate Street, London before changing their name to simply S. Maw in 1850. Maw's son joining the business in 1860 reflected the name change. When John Thompson joined the business ten years later, his name was added. On Thompson's retirement in 1918 the business was renamed S. Maw, Son & Sons. In 1940 the company moved out of London to Barnet and were renamed Maws Pharmacy Supplies Limited.
The maker's name logo is stamped in gilt to the underside of the case. The case is made of a leather with a rolled hatched pattern and also has a decorative round floral motif to the case's top. This Medicine Glass stands out for its size. Circa 1920.
The red cased medicine glass is shown to illustrate the unusual, large size of this glass and is sold separately.
