A silver plated Travel Inkwell with bolt down lid.
The silver plated top section is fitted on to a square glass bottle that would drop into a specific space in a writing slope or a secretaire campaign chest. The inkwell has a moulded edge to the bottom of the top section by way of decoration. The cushioned lining to the interior of the lid has perished.
This design was fairly common but silver plated versions are harder to find than brass. Early to mid 19th Century.
