Luscombe & Co Campaign Mirror
Luscombe & Co Campaign Mirror
This portable mirror is stamped below the looking glass with the name 'T.P. Luscombe & Co. Allahabad'.
The Army & Navy Store realized the commercial importance of having a store in Calcutta and a number of other British companies also set up in India. Although little is known of them, Luscombe & Co were obviously one such business and other examples of their stock that are known include a game carrier and fishing reel. This teak mirror is unusually large but is of a design seen before. The mirror section is pivot hinged to fold back on its protective box section, which then becomes its base. There is a large brass ring to the back of the mirror, which also allows it to be hung.
The mirror is also stamped '28' and '41' above and below the name, respectively. Third quarter 19th century.
