A pair of pressed brass Brighton Buns Candlesticks made to dismantle for travel.

The two candle sconces unscrew from their dishes, to then lay down in one dish, before the other is screwed on to it to form a bun shape containing them.

They are made from sheet brass that has been pressed into shape with the edges turned over to form a lip. The quicker manufacturing process and use of less metal, meant these candlesticks could be sold at lower price level than those cast in brass or made of silver etc. As such, they are naturally more prone to dent etc. This pair does have the odd dent but they are relatively minor and do not jump out at you.

A number of companies made and retailed them with the Army & Navy CSL describing them both as Military Candlesticks and Travelling Candlesticks. Circa 1900.

Size of each for use is given. x
