A pair of turned olive wood Brighton Bun Candlesticks with snuffer.

Olive wood Brighton Buns are fairly common, with many sold as souvenirs to visitors to the Holy Land at the end of the 19th Century. This pair stands out for the handle to one of the dishes making it a chamberstick. Given the evidence to the other dish and the flat top to the handle it is probable that both originally had handles. Where the handle joins the dish is a vulnerable point and perhaps it is no surprise that one handle broke. The Brighton Buns are well made and of good shape and interesting for their variation on the standard design. Circa 1900.
