A Roll Up Chess Board made of mahogany and boxwood with an associated set of Staunton pieces.
The chess board is made up of slatted pieces backed on to an olive coloured cloth to enable it to roll up when not in use
The Staunton Pattern Chess Set is made of boxwood with the black pieces ebonized. It's contained in a mahogany case with slide lid. The chess set is a little later in date than the board, which would originally have been sold on its own.
For a traveller, a portable Chess Board would have been very useful to pass away the time of a journey and of course, could also be used for draughts or checkers. Late 19th Century.
