A Lignum Vitea or Iron Wood Sailor's Fid.
A fid was an important tool for a Sailor and they might have several of different sizes in the tool bag. They were invaluable for rope work to open knots or splice pieces together.
This fid, like many, has three ring turnings to its top. There is little variation in colour to the grain. Mid to late 19th Century.
