A large leather on softwood Backgammon Book Box entitled Wild Sports Vol. 1 and Vol. 2.
A number of different retailers offered these games sets which were marked for backgammon to the interiors and chess and draughts to the exterior. As the A&N CSL noted they could be bought in 3 different qualities and sizes. The size of this version is a little larger than the biggest the A&N CSL offered. Typically, they were sold with dice cups but the backgammon or chess pieces were purchased separately. The title of this set is unusual as is the red and dark blue colouring. Standard titles were The History of Britain with other countries also used. However, it was possible to get a set tooled with your own title.
This set comes with ebony and boxwood counters and replaced dice. Circa 1900.
