A silver plated Case to take sandwiches or cake etc. The gilt wash to the case's interior gives the clue as to its use for food. The case is more rounded to the edges than those cases that were made to fit into leather saddle cases with a flask and this suggests that it never had an outer case.

The front edge has a long raised bar to both top and the bottom to give purchase when opening the tight case. The top is engraved with entwined initials that look to be 'I E N'. Below is stamped 'A. Barrett & Sons, 63 & 64 Piccadilly'. Although Andrew Barrett started off a brush maker he also retailed a number of travel items from luggage to portable cutlery and telescopic cups.

The case is well-made and still very useable today be it for sandwiches or to contain something else. Circa 1900.
