A pair of cast brass portable Candlesticks, known as Brighton Buns.

These travel candlesticks unscrew at the base of the sconce column to reduce their height. The threads fitting to each candlestick are on the opposite section to each other to allow the pans or dishes to screw together to form a bun shape. The two sconces fit inside the bun to safely contain them during travel. The Brighton Bun is an iconic piece of campaign equipment and was made over a along period of time in a variety of materials from brass and silver to leather and various woods. This pair follow a standard English form made in the early to mid 19th Century. They have a moulded edge to the pans and a flared lip to the sconce which elevates them above others of the period which had a plainer dish. Most Brighton Buns we have seen of this design are an inch wider on the diameter and so these stand out for being a touch smaller. Early to mid 19th Century.

The size of each candlestick is given.
