Large Hip Flask By Dixon
A large sized electroplated Britannia metal and pigskin leather Hip Flask.
The flask has James Dixon & Sons' famous trumpet and banner logo to one side of the neck and JD&S to the other. The underside of the cup is marked 1 Pt., JD&S with logo, EPBM, Made In England and 587EA. The top has a standard bayonet fitting to allow the cork lined cap to open on a half twist. Dixons of Sheffield were market leaders with a very large factory by the turn of 1900. They produced a wide range of items but Hip Flasks were a strong line of their stock. They wholesaled to a number of well-known companies and also retailed their goods.
This flask, at 1 pint can be considered large compared to most on the market. Circa 1900.
