A medium sized, brass topped, glass Travel Inkwell.
This is a standard design of travel inkwell, often used with Portable Desks or Writing Slopes that set compartments to hold them. They were popular in the first half of the 19th Century. The lid has a thumb bolt to secure the contents and avoid any ink escaping during travel.
The size of this example is uncommon. Early to mid 19th Century.
