The drawer handles to this camphor wood secretaire campaign chest immediately indicates it oriental manufacture.

They are fairly typical of a type used on portable chests made for the Western market. The chest splits into two sections as you would expect and it has brass carrying handles to the sides and bracket feet. The full length secretaire drawer has a lockable, central cupboard which contains a drawer; there are three pigeon holes to either side of the cupboard and these, in turn are flanked by a single, taller pigeon hole with two shaped dividers. There is one long drawer to the interior and four short drawers. The bottom right short drawer is fitted to take two inkwells with an ebonised pen tray and a lidded compartment. The writing surface is baized. There is a key for the secretaire drawer and another to lock the other four drawers.
