Teak Military Chest
83895
A brass bound teak Campaign Chest with two short over three long drawers.
As you would expect, the chest breaks down into two box shaped pieces, once the feet are unscrewed and removed. It would then have been put into a pair of painted pine packing cases.
The drawers have ash linings with an internal moulding to the bottom of the drawers. The top right hand drawer has a round escutcheon with a Bramah lock to make it more secure than the other drawers, which have standard locks. The left side of the top section has a historic patch towards the back which has developed a slightly different colour over time. It not unusual for campaign chests to have patches to their sides and this one been cut in well. The two halves of the chest locate to each other on four wooden lugs to the bottom section.
This is a good campaign chest with lots of brass strap work and plenty of gilt lacquer remaining to it. The maker is unknown but the cabinet making is good quality and it was likely by one of the London companies. Late 19th Century.
