British Rifle Volunteers Ceramic Plate

British Rifle Volunteers Ceramic Plate

Reference

81728

A small blue and white transfer printed Plate showing 2 soldiers with a target and tented camp in the background, the whole within a wreath with the title British Rifle Volunteers below.

The size of this plate would suggest it may have been intended as a gift for a child. However, much smaller plates with the same transfer are known, as are full size teapots and sugar pots, so it may simply be a side plate from a tea set. Whatever the intended use, the decoration would have proved popular at the time of manufacture. Circa 1860.
