A brass Kit Bag Lock with an internal lock.
Kit Bag locks were useful pieces of equipment to the traveller or soldier. They could be used to secure your luggage to railings at a station or on a train, as well linking the two handles of a bag to increase its security.
At first they were used with a separate padlock and then they were developed to have an internal lock, like this one.
This Kit Bag lock is also shaped like a handle to make it even more practical for use. Circa 1900.
