This brass edged, mahogany writing slope is small in size compared to most and you might expect it to be another 2 inches or so wider in width.

The interior has 2 secret drawers with turned knob handles and perhaps the fact that the cabinet maker has gone to the trouble of cutting dovetails for them is a sign of the general good quality of the box. They are located underneath the inkwell and desk tidy section as you might expect. The box has skeletal handles to the sides and a drawer. It can also be used as a lectern and retains its original bar. The box is decorated with a Greek key pattern to the front and a shaped escutcheon plate, which is echoed in the unused name plate to the top. It retains both its external and its internal key. Early 19th Century.
