A brass Pocket Compass by an unknown maker.
The case has a hinged lid and a ball fitting that would originally have held a hanging ring. A gold and black arrow is painted to the glass with the dialling floating to rotate. An arrow to the dial marks north. The exterior of the case has a button leaver to lift and agitate the dial and a slide catch next to it to fix the dial's position. The back of the case is stamped 'England' to show its country of origin.
The case has most of its original backing with the brass showing through in the places that have had the most handling to give a pleasing look. Circa 1900.
