A brass bound teak Food Barrel on stand.
The barrel is shaped for stability with a wider base that sits on a separate cross stand with shaped feet that extend wider than the diameter of the barrel. It is made with a typical stave construction with 5 brass bands to help secure them in place. The top is split with the shorter section fixed by pegs. The wider section is fixed to it with large brass hinges to the one side and an equally decorative hasp lock to the other to receive a padlock.
This is a good-looking barrel that stands well and is lucky to retain its original stand. Mid 19th century.
