Leather Fire Bucket

Leather Fire Bucket

Sold

A leather Fire Bucket marked to the front.

The black leather to this Fire Bucket has aged to give it a rich, worn colour. Fire is written in red to the front and the bucket's interior is painted white. The base and back seam are fixed with close fitted rivets. The copper band re-enforcing the lip of the bucket is also fixed with rivets, as is the leather belt strap handle which hangs on iron rings.

Typically such buckets are marked either with the initials of an Insurance Company, the house it belonged to or the maker such as Merryweather. This one is simply marked with its use. The condition is very good with the leather keeping a rigid shape. Late 19th Century.
