The vast majority of Kit Bag Locks are unmarked so it is always pleasing to find one with a name to it. This example has the retailer's name of 'Whiteaway Laidlaw & Co. Ltd.' A Kit Bag Lock was useful to the traveller as an extra lock to unite a pair of handles and to secure your luggage to an overhead rack or railings etc. Padlocks to use with them were typically sold separately. Circa 1900.
