A mahogany 3 fold Portable Dressing Mirror.

This mirror is a well-considered design with the 3 parts made to fit tight to each other when closed and so offer greater protection to the looking glasses. The mirror has a sprung brass catch to lock it when travelling and is opened by depressing a button. The 3 parts are hinged and when set at an angle to each other, will stand on a surface so that their mirror plates give a surrounding view. The back of the right-hand section has a magnifying glass distinguished from the other mirrors by its round shape. This would be useful for shaving and with the middle section sat on its back, it can be leant at an angle against the left-hand section.

This form of mirror was also available without the shaving glass or octagonal in shape and was sold by various makers. This mirror is illustrated in British Campaign Furniture by Nicholas Brawer on page 145. Late 19th Century.
