Sorrento Ware Brighton Buns
Sorrento Ware Brighton Buns
Made of walnut inlaid with stained woods and with cast brass candle sconces, these Brighton Buns are unusual.
Although this is the first pair of Sorrento Ware travelling candlesticks we have seen, it is logical that an indigenous industry that sort to capitalise on offering souvenirs to tourists would produce such items. Similarly, a good number of Oliver wood Brighton Buns are found with the inscription Jerusalem and were sold to pilgrims travelling through the Holy Land. The underside of one dish is decorated with two ladies dancing and are typical subjects for Sorrento Ware, which mostly drew its inspiration from local culture and history. The second dish has no decoration.
An unusual form of Brighton Bun.
