Small Travel Candlestick
83455
A cast brass Campaign Candlestick.
The candlestick's column unscrews from its small, round, dished base. Unlike a Brighton Bun, the base was never intended to form half its packing case. Although the action to dismantle the candlestick is similar, the design is different. It may have had a small leather case or bag to contain the two parts during travel.
The only comparable candlesticks we have seen are a pair that we illustrated in our catalogue Flying The Flag. They were made of bronze and had larger, flat, square bases. This one, like those, has a good weight to it and would also act well as a paperweight on a map etc.
This is an interesting and unusual piece of travel lighting. Early 19th Century.
