A small, plated metal, Patent Travel Candle Lamp.

The lamp is marked to its side Bingham. London Patent. It is probable that the patent refers to the method by which the reflector and cover are hinged to the main body in such a way that it will snuff the candle out when closed and form a compact tube. When opened the concave reflector extends the height of the lamp and has a pair of folding hanging hooks to the top which can be used to fix it to a carriage curtain or tent etc. The reflector will also then offer protection from the naked flame. The removable base of the tube is fitted with a spring to push the candle to the top as it burns down. A little known but interesting design. Circa 1910.

Closed size is given.
