One Gallon Round Rum or Grog Measure
One Gallon Round Rum or Grog Measure
82859
A copper Round Measure, commonly referred to as a Rum Measure although more accurately they were used for Grog (watered down rum).
These measures were made in 8 sizes with this, the 1 Gallon size, the largest and the smallest 1/2 Gill. It is also the hardest size to find. The Measure is marked with a Broad Arrow above its size to the middle of the front. It is also stamped ER, for Edward VII with a 6 and an I for Birmingham. The I may also indicate a date of 1910 but this is not confirmed.
The handle is riveted on, as you would expect for such a measure, and has some dents to the top. For collectors of Round Grog Measures, this size is the most uncommon and so desirable. Circa 1910.
