Half Gallon Rum Funnel

Half Gallon Rum Funnel

£135

A copper Royal Navy Rum Funnel.

The funnel is constructed in three parts: the bowl, the inverted pyramid and the seamed tube. They are all tined to the interior so that the copper doesn't effect the taste of the rum. These funnels are recognisable from their domestic equivalent by the inverted pyramid shape to the middle, which prevents it from tipping when sat in the Barricoe barrel.

This funnel, and another we have, are the second largest size out of four at half a gallon. It has a triangular hanging ring for when not in use. It has the odd dent but nothing more than might be expected from its important job as one of the items needed to accurately decant and measure the ratio of rum and water that went to make up the sailor's grog.

The lack of a Royal Navy vocabulary number dates it to before the early 1950s. Early 20th Century.
