A mahogany Desk Cabinet with brass corners and large carrying handles.
From the selection of the wood to the brass ware, this is good quality, considered cabinet. The campaign carrying handles to sides are particularly large with the back plates measuring 6 3/4 inches in width. Even the brass corners have an additional step to their shape which lifts them above most others.
As can be seen from the ivory lined holes to the inside of the doors, the cabinet originally had 6 graduated drawers with knob handles. At some stage in its life, the owner preferred 5 open shelves and the drawers were discarded. The strength of the Bramah lock can also be seen from the inside of the doors. It has a bar that runs from top to bottom locking to the cabinet rather the other door.
This is a good sized, well made Desk Cabinet. Early 19th Century.
