Weekend Suitcase by John Pound
Weekend Suitcase by John Pound
82911
A pigskin leather Weekend Suitcase by John Pound.
This case has nickel plated locks and handle fittings with internal leather straps. The base has domed feet to raise it slightly off the ground. The leather hinge to the top is supported by short internal straps to hold the lid open and prevent it opening completely, which would increase wear to the hinge.
The interior is also lined in pigskin and John Pound's label can be seen stamped in gilt to the lid interior. It gives the address of 268-270 Oxford St, 67 Piccadilly, 187 Regent St. and 81-84 Leadenhall St., London. Above the label can be seen a shadow mark, probably from an owner's plaque. Below the handle are the former owner's initials of E.F.
As you would expect from the maker, the case is well made from the quality of the handle fittings to canted top edge to ensure an easy fit to the lid. With the case open, the original colour can be seen to the section covered by the tight fitting lid. The case has taken on a darker colour and looks good for it. The case retains its original key. A good case by a good maker. Early 20th Century.
