Victorian Cigar Case
83851
A leather hide Cigar Case by I & E Butler with Vesta Envelope.
The case is made of two sleeves, which in turn are made of two pieces of leather stitched together with a raised seam. The outer sleeve has an envelope made from thinner leather for holding vestas or matches. The case originally had a metal strike pad to the bottom, now gone, for lighting the matches.
Stamped to both sleeves are the maker's details of 'I & E. Butler Registered May 22 1844'. The leather has developed a good, deep brown colour to the outer sleeve with the hidden inner sleeve a little lighter in colour. Mid 19th Century.
