A grained leather Kit or Square Mouthed Bag.
This bag is a little longer than most Kit Bags and would work well as a weekend bag. The interior has its original lining which has two pockets to one of the long sides and is in good condition.
The carrying handle is made of layers of leather, shaped to give a comfortable grip. Under the handle is the lock which releases by pushing down on the central button. There is also a leather tab to pull when depressing the lock for ease of opening. The key is missing but the lock still works. To either end of the bag is a brass twist bar with teeth to further secure the ends when packed. The underside of the bag has six brass domed feet to raise slightly off the ground.
The 'square mouth' works well and still holds its open position to give easy access to the interior. This is a bag which is till very useable with the leather in good condition. Circa 1900.
