A black leather Monthly Filing Case or Wallet by Chubb & Son.
The case has 12 compartments each gilt stamped to the dividing board with a month from January to December. The pockets have a gusset to expand to the size of its contents.
The round brass lock plate is stamped 'Chubb & Son Makers To Her Majesty' below the Royal Coat of Arms. The top plate of the lock is stamped 'Chubbs Patent 57 St. Pauls CH YD London' again below the Royal Coat of Arms. It is also stamped with the number 202632 which dates the lock to between 1844 and 1850.
There is also an applied paper label for the owner 'T.R. Williams' Unfortunately it is a common name and with no other information, it is impossible to be sure of the owner.
The Case will take papers a little smaller than A4 size and although there is no key, is still usable. Circa 1848.
