A silver Brandy Warmer in leather case.

Although spirit heaters with cups for hot drinks or shaving are not uncommon, Brandy Warmers do not appear on the market very often. Whereas most spirit heater sets have a beaker which acts as the pan, this set has a glass bottle. The screw cap would be removed and the bottle sat on the tripod stand over the spirit burner. The bottle is large enough to hold brandy for one drink only and could be slowly warmed by the spirit heater. All the silver parts have the heraldic device of a lion rampant wearing a crown and on a Ducal crown.

The case is initialled M.P. The tripod is fully hallmarked for London 1883 with the maker's initials likely to be for Frederic Purnell. The 2 screw caps are not marked and the spirit heater is partially marked. The case is well made but with no lid hinge, the popper button to the front is sufficient to hold the lid in place. Dated 1883.
