The canted corners to this pine trunk immediately point to it being made for the sea. The becket rope handles would have taken the owner many hours to work and are a good example of the skills and time available to the sailor to perfect his work. Originally the trunk would have been painted but it has been stripped at some stage in its life. The interior is plain except for a candle box to one side. Mid to late 19th Century.
