York House Douro Chair
York House Douro Chair
A satin birch Douro Chair with caned back and adjustable, leather strap arms.
The Douro Chair was sold by most of the London makers although many have slight differences to their design allowing you to recognise them if there is no maker's mark. This chair does have a round York House, Regent Street, London maker's plaque to the top back rail. The company were also known as The Junior Army & Navy Store. The top of the back uprights are rounded in a similar manner to Hill & Millard Douros but they are not fitted with a brass rod to hold the back cushion. The X frame legs are a little thicker than most and add to the strength of the chair. We have made the buttoned, green leather cushions for the chair but it would have had similar originally.
