A Portable Cot
A Portable Cot
81526
A mahogany portable Child's Cot or Cradle.
This campaign Cot is fixed with brass bolts to dismantle the 2 end columns from the pair of turned stretchers that unite them. The cot has an iron fitting to each end so that it can swing on the end posts. It also has a bolt to prevent it from swinging, if desired. The cot has caned sides for the air to circulate easily and a slatted pine base to take a mattress. The sides are all hinged to the base but fixed to the top corners by bolts so that it can be flat packed. There is evidence that it once had a removable hood. The cot is made with bold turnings and wide feet to give it rigidity and is a well-made piece of antique travel furniture. Circa 1830.
