Hatherley Folding Bench
Hatherley Folding Bench
This teak slatted bench folds in one easy movement with the seat coming up to meet the back rest and the front legs and arm rests folding to flat pack.
It is possible that this bench was made with sporting occasions in mind which would tie in with Hatherley's other products such as their Umpire's Chair. Hatherley was the registered name of Allan Jones & Co. who were based in Gloucester and had depots in London, Glasgow and Liverpool. They were known primarily for their folding tables and step ladders and this bench can be considered an uncommon survivor from their range.
The bench has a transfer to one of the stretchers noting 'Hatherley Registered Trade Mark' and giving a registered design number which is very worn. It is possibly 782191 which would date to 1933 and fit in with the period of the bench. Circa 1935.
