A French iron Strap-Auto Motoring Seat with original rexine type upholstery.

This small, folding iron chair was designed for use by an extra passenger when set between the 2 front seats of a car. It could also be used for picnics when out motoring. The folding mechanism is release by a lever to the back, where it meets the seat. Once the back is folded against the seat, the X frame legs will also fold making the chair very compact.

The chair has no maker's label but another we have sold had a label with the name Strap-Auto and the company name Systeme Truffy with B.G.D. This is an abbreviation for the French patented but without government guarantee of Bte S.G.D.G. Systeme Truffy's address was Franco Canadienne, 20 rue d'Armenonville, Neuilly Sur Seine.

The chair is industrial in look but the shaped seat lends a little style to its practical qualities. Circa 1910.
