Small Campaign Cabin Table Chest
Small Campaign Cabin Table Chest
82588
A mahogany, small Campaign Chest or Cabin Table with fold over top.
The top board of the chest has a moulded edge and is hinged to one side to allow it to double in width. To the side of the drawers is a large loper which swings out to support the leaf when opened. When fully opened, the top of the chest underneath the board, and its method of construction, is revealed showing the wide, open dovetails used.
The three graduated drawers have pine linings with machine cut dovetails. The campaign handles used are a type that are late 19th century in date. Each drawer has a lock marked Harley & Co, W'Hampton, Four Levers Lock and stamped with a Broad Arrow mark. The top lock is stamped 1915 whilst the two below are stamped 1916. The turned feet are removable on wooden threads.
This small chest is comparable to the Cabin Tables which are mostly colonial made and have a short leaf either side to extend the top like a Pembroke table. The only difference is that this British version has a single long leaf which rests on the top as opposed to the side.
This is a very useful, small piece of furniture which allows flexibility in its use. Early 20th Century.
Extended length of the top is 43 1/2 inches (110.5cm)
