A brass bound oak Campaign Chest with a short drawer secretaire.

The secretaire drawer has one long internal drawer with two short drawers above, all faced in maple. Above the short drawers are four pigeon-holes with Gothic arches, two of which have been replaced. The original writing surface is a worn velvet.

The chests split into half, as you would expect and has removable feet. The sides of the chest have a few patches to the edges where the top half hasn't been placed down carefully enough. Unfortunately, this is not uncommon.

The chest is a little taller than most with a secretaire that was intended to stand at to work. Oak campaign chests are harder to find than teak or mahogany ones and this is a nice example.
Circa 1875.
