A mahogany Campaign or Military Chest in two parts with removable feet.
The chest has two short drawers to the top with a long, deep second drawer below and the 2 long drawers to the bottom half. The drawers all have ash linings and the top right drawer has a stronger Hobbs & Co. lock which retains its key. The handles still have their original lacquer. The back of the chest is panelled. The original turned feet are made of satin birch wood, which is a little unusual.
There is no mark or label but it is possible that the chest was made by the Irish maker Gregory Kane of Dublin. The raised, round brass escutcheons to each drawer, the 2 (as opposed to 4) locating lugs and the half brass strap to the bottom of the top section are all traits of his work. He is also known to have used Hobbs as well as Bramah locks. Mid to late 19th Century.
