This dark oak sofa is an unusual piece of campaign furniture. It looks like the type of bench that you might get at a railway station but of course is bolted to come apart easily.

It breaks down into 4 sections, that is to say 2 sides that support the seat and the back. The seat is padded to the front to raise the cushion and the back is deep buttoned. When set up, it is a solid piece of furniture but it is not the type of item that you would immediately think was the property of an individual soldier. Perhaps it was privately purchased for use in the Mess or Billiard Room or meant for a purpose other than military use.

The original oil cloth upholstery was beyond saving and has replaced with green leather. The antique period is Second half 19th century.
