Folk Art Toy Battleship
82578
A scratch built, painted pine Toy Battleship.
The ship has a gun to either end made from brass bolts and sitting behind a sheet brass screen. The propeller (which turns) and rudder are also brass. The funnels are made of wood and the ship is painted very dark green with gilt portholes etc.
Although the ship has a naïve quality to it: there is an accidental saw cut below the front gun, it is also well considered with some nice detail shown by the thread used to make the railings to the middle. The metal ring to the front for a string to pull the ship suggests it was made as a toy. The stand has been made for display. Circa 1900.
Size on stand is given.
