Finnigan's Brass Kit Bag Lock
A brass Kit Bag Lock with internal lock stamped Finnigan's Manchester.
This is an unusual Kit Bag Lock for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it is rare to find these locks marked with a maker's name. Secondly, the design and size stand out. It is taller than most with the top bar of the brass flattened to make a more natural handle. The built in lock is a little larger than most and so perhaps, stronger. It is also sprung so that the swinging locking bar can be locked with out the use of the key, which would be more practical if you have your hands full.
Finnigan's were exceptional luggage makers from Manchester, with shops in Liverpool, London and Paris. As such it is perhaps no surprise that they also made Kit Bag Locks. Circa 1900.
